Magical Mural Tour

September 1 - september 30

1. Heart of The Planet by Isabell Owens

With the state of the world right now I believe it’s important to remind ourselves about what helps us exist. We must remind ourselves that we coexist with the environment, it helps us live, breathe, eat and so much more. The ocean and its inhabitants are a critical part of the environment, it is the heart of our planet, covering more than 70% of the planet. Yet somehow it seems we’ve forgotten, rising temperatures melting the ice, pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction. We need to remember and I want my art to help bring light to it, to appreciate the ocean and what it does for us.

3. Ophelia by Amelia Meier

This mural depicts the character Ophelia in Act 4, Scene 7 of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. she is kept afloat by her dress in a brook surrounded by crow flowers, nettles, daisies, and long purples. I was inspired to create this acrylic painting after reading Shakespeare’s tragedy and consuming similar artwork, hoping to capture the beautify and serenity of the scene.

5. Group Hug by Eileen Miner

My art reflects the bond creatures of all kinds can have together. As line drawing is my favorite medium, I simply outlined shapes to allow the colorful details to pop. The animals chosen are favorites of my loved ones and me. Mine is a sheep. Perhaps a hug of happiness, comfort, security or acceptance. A hug each day brings a warm and colorful feeling inside.

7. Guardian of the Abyss by Sariyah Khaldi

Guardian of the Abyss reflects the quiet brilliance and God-given design found even in the depths of the sea. The octopus is an intelligent and adaptive creatures—able to solve problems, camouflage itself, and navigate the unknown. In this piece, I wanted to portray it not just as a sea creature, but as a reminder that nothing in God’s world is without purpose—even in the darkest, most hidden places. I imagined this octopus as a humble guardian of the deep, created with intention and wisdom.

9. A Walk With the Dragon

By Zachary Wendt

I like art, I live in Rochester Hills and this was a fun summer project for me to work on.

11. I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees by Charlotte Carbone

Lately I’ve been drawing more and more. I like to draw different characters from movies. I entered the Mural Tour to challenge myself. Being a kid, this is by far the largest drawing I have ever done!

13. Lights Over Michigan by Cynthia Maitland

I’ve had the opportunity to view the Northern lights right here in Michigan and only a few miles from my home. They leave me in awe at their beauty every time! I love my Michigan!

15. Felineage by Bridget Elmore

This artwork features the seven cats that I have had throughout my life. Each one poses in front of their own vibrant background as they look at one other from across the canvas. The empty square holds space for the pets I will meet in the future.

17. Smile Blooms by Selena Bender

This piece celebrates the power of small acts of kindness. Bright, bold colors and a hand offering a smiley-faced flower invite viewers to “be the reason someone smiles today.”

It’s a joyful reminder that even the simplest gestures can bring light to someone’s day.

18. Nautilus Dreams by Val Rodriguez

My art explores the bits of whimsy and wonder in the world around us. While most of my work has modern themes, for this piece I wanted to capture a creature that lives today just as it did in the ancient past.
The piece depicts the Nautilus, a prehistoric being that has lived for 480 million + years. Our Nautilus is being ushered by a dreamlike procession of friends from past and present, onto whatever is next.

20. An Unexpected Audience with the King by Angela Ortiz

I was inspired by the Rochester Riverwalk and all its whimsy. The story of two travelers set here at the river, mirrors the audience as they set on their tour of Rochester’s mystic.

22. A New Day Has Come by Laura Rothenberg

A sunrise is a reminder that there is beauty all around us - and every day is a fresh start!

24. Flying High by Julianne Keller

Duck is bringing smiles and imagination. Are you ready to fly high and go on your next adventure?

2. One Pride

By Marisa Cohen

I wanted to create something that was in honor of the Detroit Lions football team for all of their hard work and dedication over the past several years.

Seeing the way the team has come together has not only has created a great legacy but also an awesome community for everyone.

Go Lions!

4. Just One by Karolyn Cardinale

Bars are a social hub in communities: prompting new connections, a place to nurse all sorts of relationships, an escape from the daily grind. All of this begins with "Just One"

6. Skate Wizard by Audrey Randazzo

Skate Wizard is a love letter to golden age pulp fantasy magazines and 80s skate culture. This mural captures the ultimate trick: shredding down a dragon's spine, sparks flying as its tail becomes the perfect ramp.

This is sorcery meets sidewalk survival. Where the dragon’s not a monster to slay, but the gnarliest ride in the realm. No damsel saving, no dungeon crawling; just a wizard who knows the real magic trick is sticking the landing.

8. The Butterfly Effect by Faith Marzolf

I painted butterflies to represent change, growth, and the idea that small actions can have a big impact - like the butterfly effect. This mural is a reminder that even the tiniest moments can lead to something beautiful.

10. King of the Thistle by Gina Iannarelli

Every year this handsome bird decorates our yard with thistle. Every year we battle it. We surrender, you win. We have accepted your fluffy purple bloom and dagger-like leaves.

12. And Still, I Bloom by Nina Ciolino

This piece is a quiet anthem of resilience. A tribute to the strength it takes to grow through uncertainty, to remain rooted in your truth, and to radiate love even after seasons of struggle. “And Still, I Bloom” speaks to the beauty of becoming, not in ideal conditions, but in the real, messy, and honest parts of life, blooming not just once, but again and again, reflecting the enduring power of self-love, healing, and individuality.

14. Meadow Larking by Cynthia Armstrong

Meadow Larking

Nothing says Spring more than abundant flowers and new born wildlife. This spring we had a fawn born in our yard, and the mother often would leave the fawn in hiding. On one particular day, she left her baby directly outside my studio window in a bed of tall flowers. When it started to rain, the little one felt emboldened, and curiosity about the surroundings won out. As the fawn investigated an ever widening circle around its flowery bed, it suddenly found itself exposed and startled by my presence in the window. This meadow image was born from my movement sketches of fawns and my imagination of what this exploration and discovery would look like out in the wild. I hoped to capture the innocent, joyful sense of curiosity mingled with courage that helps us broaden our world.

"It’s good to be curious about many things." - Mr Rogers

16. Solar Embrace by Auryana Yalda

I just really like the moon and stars!

19. Cheeky Chirpy Chickies by Amanda Sgarlata

My artwork is an illustration of the whimsy and beauty I find in the world around us. Wildlife, mostly birds, small animals, so many flowers, are my very favorite subject to study and paint. I love to use color and stylized pattern to build a window into a surprising little moment of observation.

My mural this year, Cheeky Chirpy Chickies, was inspired by the little chickadees that visit my back yard. They perch themselves on the branches of our pear tree, boldly, quickly flying back and forth from the feeder, chirping, and cheering each other on. In the fall, the contrast of these excited little black and white balls of feathers stands out so brightly against the reds and golds of the changing leaves. I could watch them all day.

21. Dancing Flowers by Joseph Crowley

I enjoy the feeling of creating whimsical drawings. My process for this mural includes using a continuous line to draw each flower. The lines overlap and create spaces that can then be filled in with color. I hope that my work makes you smile.

23. Light by Amy Carbone

As an artist I try to challenge myself with each new project. For this mural I was hoping to capture how Light shines through and among objects. Flowers and nature in itself is beautiful, but with the sunshine it adds to the warmth and life.

25. A Still Stranger World by Krisia Rosa

I picked this design because it seems to exemplify the dichotomy between the vast mystery and the poignant fragility of the ocean. A pod of sleeping Sperm Whales is such a strange sight. To see some of the largest animals in the world, hanging, suspended in the silent pause of sleep, is a visual that makes me stop short every time.
