The holiday season in downtown Rochester is officially here!

Monday, Nov. 28, 6:00 – 9:00 pm

The 39th annual Lagniappe officially kicks-off the holiday season in downtown Rochester. As usual, there will be carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides, a visit from Santa Claus and the debut of the 2011 Big, Bright Light Show! Merchants are asked to offer “lagniappe,” Creole for “a little something extra” to their customers as a token of appreciation for their support throughout the year.

Lit Nightly, Nov. 28-Jan. 1, 2012, 6:00 pm – Midnight

The Big, Bright Light Show, a holiday display unlike any in the Midwest, is entering its sixth year. As with previous years, the buildings of Main Street will be covered in big, bright lights beginning at the South Bridge and will extend all the way north to Romeo Road. Additionally, buildings on Fourth Street from Walnut to Water Street will be covered. Click here for more info!

Ewe Still Have Time to Join the Flock!

The deadline to submit designs for the Ewe Revue 2 has been extended to Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The Ewe Revue 2 committee is accepting applications from artists who wish to participate in this public art event. The Ewe Revue 2 is open to all artists, whether professional or amateurs. Artists of all ages are encouraged to submit designs.

Sheep must be decorated with a “Hollywood” theme. This includes movies, movie stars, musicians, various celebrities and anything else deemed appropriate by The Ewe Revue 2 committee.

All designs must be approved by the Ewe Revue 2 committee. All applications must be received by Nov. 30, 2011, and once notified of selection, all completed sheep must be returned to the Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA) by March 26, 2012.

Closing Day of the Farmers’ Market

It’s been a great season… a busy season! But all good things must come to an end – at least temporarily!

This Saturday, October 29, 8am-1pm is Closing Day of the Farmers’ Market for the 2011 season. This is your last chance to stock-up on farm-fresh goods from your favorite local farmers until May 2012!

Also, this Saturday from 10am-noon, kids should wear their costumes to trick-or-treat at the Market!

Trick-or-Treat this Saturday!

This Saturday, Oct. 22, Join your friends and neighbors in downtown Rochester for Trick-or-Treat Downtown, a costume parade… and spaghetti?!

Kids are encouraged to dress-up and Trick-or-Treat Downtown from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Many businesses will participate in Trick-or-Treat and streets with participating businesses will be marked with balloon decorations.

At 5:15 p.m., kids can meet for the Costume Parade at the public parking lot between East & Water Street and E. University. They will be joined by a police car and fire truck. The parade will proceed south on Water Street and end at the Rochester Fire Department.

New to the event this year are hayrides! Jump on the wagon departing from the Fire Department between 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Rides are free and kids should be accompanied by a parent. The Fire Department is located at the corner of E. Third and Water Street. Special thanks to the Rochester Hills Museum for use of their wagon!

AEB! (All Ewes Bulletin)

The Ewe Revue 2 committee has put out an AEB – an All Ewes Bulletin – for whereabouts of sheep from the original Ewe Revue in 2001.  If you or someone you know has an original ewe, please contact the Rochester DDA office at 248/656-0060.

Also, the deadline to request an Artist’s Application for the Ewe Revue 2 public art event has been extended.  Artist Applications will now be available through Oct. 21, 2011.  All completed applications still must be submitted by Nov. 1, 2011.
